They're Changing The Rules...

Friday, December 12, 2003

Two Iowa Companies Take the Giant Step Forward to Build the Nation's First Commercial Swine Confinement Facility with no Lagoons or Under Building Storage of Waste. Manure will be Removed Daily and Dried, and Stored at the Site with the GRRO Tempest Drying System.

United Suppliers Inc. headquartered in Eldora, Iowa with 859 members in 16 states, and Global Resource Recovery Organization (GRRO) with offices in Bradenton, Florida and Eldora, Iowa announced today for plans in the spring of 2004 to build a swine confinement like no other in the United States or for that matter in the entire world. These facilities will be much more environmentally friendly to the pigs, the workers, the neighbors, and of course to Mother Earth.

Maury Hyde, President and CEO of United Suppliers commented, "Many people talk about changing the way we create value for our customers, and doing something good for the environment. This project is good for both."

While many details are yet to be released, the engineering and equipment development are underway. More details will be released at a later date. "We are looking for this to be a Hardin County, Iowa project to facilitate visitors close to our everyday agricultural operations for both companies" stated Loran Balvanz President and CEO of GRRO. "People have been hearing me talk about this technology for a long time. With the everyday experience of our current NRCS (FPPC) project underway outside of Marshalltown, we are more than ready." "We look forward to working with the DNR on permitting issues and continued cooperation on the current Marshalltown project at the Burt Farm," comments Richard DeGarmo, VP of Environmental Engineering for GRRO and Project Manager for the Burt Farm Site. "It's exciting to be a part of such a significant change."

Cliff Daugherty, Fertilizer Division Manager for United Suppliers, Inc. adds "We are looking forward to being at the threshold of developing the highest use for the end product. We see a tremendous potential for new products yet to be realized from the innovation of just drying the waste and creating value added fertilizers."

Jack Peters, Feed Division Manager for United Suppliers, Inc. also expressed the same enthusiasm for the project. "Being conservative in nature this project is a breath of fresh air for the farmers and agriculture related businesses. We truly understand we are breaking new ground and it is time. We are up to the challenge."

Previewing the Tempest Drying System in action has seen a busy schedule. On September 24, 2003 Barry Kintzer of the USDA in Washington, DC, Peter Hubbell of the FPPC/Water Resource Associates, and Jerry Hatfield of the USDA Labs in Ames, Iowa toured the facility and were updated on the status of the project. Stationery equipment was shown as well as the GRRO Tempest Drying System. In addition, Mr. Frank Lancaster and Dr. Frank Bordeaux of the North Carolina Agricultural Finance Authority also have recently visited the site.

Global Resource Recovery Organization is a member of the Ag Waste Recovery Systems (AWRS) group located in Ames, IA., which is dedicated to solving the hog waste problem across the U.S. Look for similar news which will be forthcoming on AWRS's own version of no holding pond/lagoon hog confinements. Edge Technologies, Inc. of Ames and Sheets & Sons Environmental Applications, LLC of Bainbridge Island, WA, are also partners in the project.
